February’s 30 Acts of Kindness Roundup!

This month I had fun doing my acts of kindness during National Random Acts of Kindness Week. I started out the week with a Starbucks treat for my Instagram and Twitter friends. I had seen some others do this before and thought it was a great idea. All you have to do is purchase a gift card, register it online with the Starbucks App, and then take a screen-shot of the barcode. Then post that screen shot on Instagram and you can gift coffee to your friends across the country! I really … [Read more...]

Random Acts of Kindness Week!

Next week, February 10th through the 16th, is Random Acts of Kindness Week. What a great opportunity for me to work on my 30 Acts of Kindness! I heard about RAOK week over at Lil Blue Boo. I just love what she and her daughter did last year to spread joy and kindness in their community. Head over to her site to see the awesome video of what they did. Need some more ideas? Here are some of my favorite sites I've found that are inspiring me to act in kindness! Check out these 26 … [Read more...]

Grateful November

Lara Casey posted this on Instagram on November first. I had been thinking about trying to do some kind of daily challenge for the month of November, and I knew I needed to keep it simple, and this challenge fulfilled my criteria so I decided to go for it! I'm so glad I did. This month has been busy, and next week only looks busier, but the exercise of focusing on what I'm grateful for each day helps me stay centered. Day 1 I'm grateful for my best friend and husband. We have … [Read more...]

Busy Good, Busy Bad

It's been a good busy these last few weeks. I'm really enjoying a steady stream of photography sessions. Such as this fun family in my latest family session. Yet, I've also had time to work on some of my art for the upcoming market. Here a few new Paper Mache animal heads in the beginning stages. I do need to make more concrete weekly and daily goals with my creating though, as the date is drawing closer. I'm really enjoying my school year and am having a great time being … [Read more...]

New School

I've enjoyed settling into my new school this year. At the start I was both nervous and excited about the switch. I had been at my other school for so long, I knew the kids, the staff, and how things ran. So, it was a little scary being the newbie and feeling out of the loop, but everyone has made me feel so welcome. Below is my new team on story book character parade day. We're all characters from Dr. Seuss books, unfortunately my fellow art teacher, Thing 1, was sick that day. You … [Read more...]

The Influence Conference 2013: Recap (It’s Going to Get Real)

I've been sitting on this post since Monday debating what it was going to become. I was very tempted to just tell you how wonderful the conference was, and that'd be oh so true, but that wouldn't be the whole truth. First of all, if you were wondering what I am talking about, the Influence Network is a fabulous network of Christian women who are striving to use their blogs, small businesses and social media to the glory of God. This past weekend in Indianapolis they hosted a conference … [Read more...]

May o’ My

Physically I've been back from our yearly family trip to Gulf Shores for almost a week now, mentally I really want to stay in vacation mode. It's been hard to snap out of it and get some things done, like work on this blog, think about the up coming school year and so on... And, to make matters even harder, it's been wonderfully rainy. All I want to do is read or think about craft projects. Is that so wrong? Oh well. I have little less than a month left before I have to go back to … [Read more...]

April’s Trips and Changes

This past April I got to go visit my friend and "neighbor for life," as we call it, Allie, in Chicago! She was my next door neighbor for almost 20 years and is like the awesome little sister I never had. I had never been to Chicago before and really liked it. I was only there for an extended weekend and definitely need to go back and see more. We spent some time in Millennium Park and it snowed big wet fluffy flakes on us. Since it was cold and kind of wet there weren't too many … [Read more...]

DIY Tutorial – Paper Mache 3D Letters

Or, if you want to be fancy pantsy about it, Papier-mâché. I decided to make some 3D letters for my classroom this summer after seeing Mrs. Nights Artroom posted on Pinterest. I went shopping first trying to find letters that I could buy and then just decorate, but after looking around and letters that were big enough for what I needed were out of my price range, so I decided to make them myself. The process was easy and cost me under $10! I started off by drawing each letter nice and … [Read more...]

Doodling – What the Smart Kids are Doing

[ted id=1230] I came across this video on the benefits of doodling while looking for activities for my art room the other day and thought it was very interesting.  As a visual/kinesthetic learner I felt that adding drawings or doodles to my notes helped me learn information better, and it was always more fun. But, as I've gotten older I've also felt that doodling in public is thought of as kind of childish or that people thought I wasn't actually listening to them during presentations or such. … [Read more...]
