Weekend Brunch: Paleo – Grain Free Waffles

I realize I haven't shared a recipe in a while. Ever since doing the Whole 30 Challenge at the end of last summer I haven't been eating like I used to. I've committed to being gluten free and Paleo when possible. I notice such a difference in my energy level and the positive effects on my emotional well-being when I eat this way. Because of this diet change, I kind of thought others wouldn't be as interested in my recipes. But, as I go through Pinterest and even look at the New York Times … [Read more...]

A Little Bit of Christmas Cheer

I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday this year. The lights didn't go out on Christmas day, so ours was a little less adventurous than last year's, but still very nice. Sean had to work for a few hours Christmas day, which was kind of a bummer. However, we decided to push back Christmas dinner to 5'ish instead of the usual 1 or 2, which made cooking dinner seem less stressful than it had in years past. Or, it might just have been I have one more year of cooking Christmas dinner … [Read more...]

More Gratefulness!

I just finished my third week of practicing daily gratitude and it's amazing how I've started to look for the good in my everyday life. I've always been blessed and I thought I was good at recognizing it, but I feel even more cognizant of it now. Little details, small moments and big gestures, they are filling my life more joy now that I am looking for them. Here's the run down on #GratefulNovember week 3! Day 15 Last weekend was full of photography sessions and the weather … [Read more...]

The Influence Conference 2013: Recap (It’s Going to Get Real)

I've been sitting on this post since Monday debating what it was going to become. I was very tempted to just tell you how wonderful the conference was, and that'd be oh so true, but that wouldn't be the whole truth. First of all, if you were wondering what I am talking about, the Influence Network is a fabulous network of Christian women who are striving to use their blogs, small businesses and social media to the glory of God. This past weekend in Indianapolis they hosted a conference … [Read more...]

Almond Spice Cookies (Grain & Dairy Free)

Happy October 1st everyone! I've thoroughly enjoyed seeing everyone's post on social media today about pumpkins and fall weather. This afternoon in Houston it still felt like 93, so not very fall-ish, but we'll get there. When I think of fall I think of the taste of cinnamon and spice. Here is a super simple and delicious spice cookie to help you welcome fall wherever you are, no matter what the temperature. And it's Grain Free and Diary Free to boot! Almond Spice … [Read more...]

The Influence Conference!!!

I'm excited for tomorrow because I'm headed off to the Influence Conference! I've never been to a conference like this before and truthfully I'm excited and super nervous. Excited to meet new people and make new friends, nervous because the introvert inside of me is quaking in my boots. While I'm there, I hope to learn a lot about how to better use my blog, and my love for art and creativity. I'll try to keep you posted, so stay tuned to my Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for … [Read more...]

My Whole 30 Challenge!

It might seem crazy I know, but after eating only juice for three days, doing the Whole30 challenge felt like I had a ton of options for what I could eat. What is the Whole30 challenge you ask? The link will give you the details, but in a nutshell it's eating whole foods for 30 days. This includes as natural as possible meat, fish and eggs, lots of nutrient rich veggies, some fruits, and healthy fats. Not on the list are grains (of any kind, and corn is a grain), dairy, legumes (including … [Read more...]

Juicing and the Whole 30 Challenge

After coming back from our beach vacation this year, I wasn't feeling my best. I had eaten out a lot more than I usually do, plus I had snacks at my finger tips I would normally never be around, and lets not mention my lack of will power. Together these made a perfect storm for fatigue, weight gain and general yuckiness. So I decided, and Sean graciously went along with it, that we would do a juice cleanse! Exciting I know. Above is our grocery cart full of lots of fruits and … [Read more...]

Hot Cross Buns

For the last couple of years hot cross buns have become part of our Easter morning tradition. Our church has one combined outdoor service for Easter and everyone is encouraged to bring food to share with others before and after the service. Hot cross buns are a simple spiced bread with currants that make a tasty breakfast that's easy to share. Hot cross buns are traditionally eaten on Good Friday in England, but because of my schedule, and usually what I have given up for lent, I have been … [Read more...]

Cinnamon Banana Bread (with Streusel Topping)

This is one of my first go-to recipes when I started really wanting to cook from scratch in college. I actually usually make these as muffins, but for some reason I felt like a thick slice of banana bread the day I baked these. This recipe is great to make with kids and I have fond memories of smashing up bananas with one of my friends daughters when I would make these in college. The streusel topping is not a necessity for this bread, but it's a fun addition if you're in the mood to make … [Read more...]
