DIY: Swedish Easter Trees

Hello everyone!  It's been too long. I'm hopping back on the blogging train with a fun DIY that would work great for your Easter table centerpiece. Through my church I recently met a woman who told me, as a child growing up in Sweden, people would decorate their homes around Easter with birch branches that had colorful feathers attached.  These are such a simple and cheerful way to bring color to your Easter table. To start, I gathered the materials:  some branches I found on a walk, … [Read more...]

DIY: Ikea Sindal Door Mat Hack

It's been too long since I've shared a DIY project, and I thought an Ikea project would be a great place to start!  I bought this Sindal Door Mat for just over five bucks this summer. Here's a close up from the Ikea site of what the door mat looks like without anything done to it. I used painters tape, a can of spray paint, a few colors of craft paint, and a stiff brush. All items I had around the house from other projects I'd done. Also, from start to finish the project only took me … [Read more...]

A Sharper Focus Shop Update

I have had so much fun with my Etsy shop so far.  I've gotten wonderful feedback, great questions and have been able to raise a lot more money than I would have normally been able to give to charity.  It still kind of blows my mind when I get a sale from someone across the country! I'm going to keep a variety of prints and the watercolor print necklaces a constant in the store. But, I also love to make a wide variety of art, crafts, and sewing projects, so I've decided I'm going to do a … [Read more...]

3 Days Till A Sharper Focus Shop!

This was my view yesterday working on new necklaces. On May 1st I'm officially launching my Etsy shop! I'm so excited to share prints, accessories and my art with all of you. I'm also really pumped to be able to use the shop to give back to organizations that are near to my heart. Each month there will be a featured charity, or group, that 10% of all sales will be donated to. For the month of May, Living Water International will be the shop's featured organization! I first learned … [Read more...]

Thanks Apartment Therapy!!!

Woohoo! I was super excited last night when a friend informed me my DIY Paper Mache Fox Head Tutorial was featured in one of Apartment Therapy's recent posts! Above is a more detailed photo of my most recent fox before he went on to his new home. The fox, giraffe and lamb where definitely the most talked about heads at the Art Market. I'm so grateful for all of the positive feedback I've gotten! I'll be working on some new heads over the holidays, so stay tuned for updates on my … [Read more...]

Art Market Awesomeness!

Last Saturday I had a wonderful time at the Elder Street Art Market!  I have gone to this market for the last few years and have always thought to myself, "I should do this."  So, this year I took the plunge and reserved my booth in October.  I think I really decided to do the market after I went to the Influence Conference in September though.  Seeing what others had created and listening to their inspiring stories at the conference helped me stop making excuses and start moving … [Read more...]

T-minus 4 Days Til the Elder Street Art Market

Preparations are going well, but I still have lots to do for the up coming Art Market! Tomorrow, and over the next few days I hope to post some previews of what I'm going to be selling at the Elder Street Art Market here in Houston. First I wanted to share the "Why" behind me doing this art market. This video pretty much sums it up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IN0W3gjnNE 20% of all the proceeds made at the Art Market will be going to Advent Conspiracy that in turn goes to Living Water … [Read more...]

Busy Good, Busy Bad

It's been a good busy these last few weeks. I'm really enjoying a steady stream of photography sessions. Such as this fun family in my latest family session. Yet, I've also had time to work on some of my art for the upcoming market. Here a few new Paper Mache animal heads in the beginning stages. I do need to make more concrete weekly and daily goals with my creating though, as the date is drawing closer. I'm really enjoying my school year and am having a great time being … [Read more...]

New School

I've enjoyed settling into my new school this year. At the start I was both nervous and excited about the switch. I had been at my other school for so long, I knew the kids, the staff, and how things ran. So, it was a little scary being the newbie and feeling out of the loop, but everyone has made me feel so welcome. Below is my new team on story book character parade day. We're all characters from Dr. Seuss books, unfortunately my fellow art teacher, Thing 1, was sick that day. You … [Read more...]
