DIY: Swedish Easter Trees

Hello everyone!  It's been too long. I'm hopping back on the blogging train with a fun DIY that would work great for your Easter table centerpiece. Through my church I recently met a woman who told me, as a child growing up in Sweden, people would decorate their homes around Easter with birch branches that had colorful feathers attached.  These are such a simple and cheerful way to bring color to your Easter table. To start, I gathered the materials:  some branches I found on a walk, … [Read more...]

This Year’s Influence Conference Recap

You know when you've just returned from a trip, or in this case a conference, and people ask you, "So, how was it?"  Normaly, I have a nice short answer with a few descriptive adjectives--maybe a sentence or two about my favorite part. But this time,  I've been kind of dreading that question.  How do I sum up this year's Influence Conference for someone who wasn't there?  It feels like an impossible task to put into words how much the conference has effected me. Last year was my first year … [Read more...]

Influence Conference Link-Up!

I'm so excited! A week from now, I will be in Indianapolis at the 2014 Influence Conference and the Network is doing a link-up to get to know a little more about the attendees. So, to start, here's a bit about me: I'm Sarah Pope of A Sharper Focus. I blog here about the things that move me, like beauty, justice, and living well. I am also a teacher, artist, and graphic designer, and I sell my creations in my Etsy store. I'm passionate about my portrait photography business and love creating … [Read more...]

What to Expect With Your First Stitch Fix

I finally did it!  I've been wanting to try Stitch Fix since I first heard about it last summer. Sean even got me a gift card for my birthday, but I kept putting it off.  With school starting up, and the Influence Conference just around the corner, I decided to finally sign up for my first fix.  What is Stitch Fix you ask?  It's a personal online styling service that ships directly to your home.  You pay a $20 styling fee and they choose 5 items for you based on a style survey and your own … [Read more...]

DIY: Ikea Sindal Door Mat Hack

It's been too long since I've shared a DIY project, and I thought an Ikea project would be a great place to start!  I bought this Sindal Door Mat for just over five bucks this summer. Here's a close up from the Ikea site of what the door mat looks like without anything done to it. I used painters tape, a can of spray paint, a few colors of craft paint, and a stiff brush. All items I had around the house from other projects I'd done. Also, from start to finish the project only took me … [Read more...]

A Sharper Focus Shop Update

I have had so much fun with my Etsy shop so far.  I've gotten wonderful feedback, great questions and have been able to raise a lot more money than I would have normally been able to give to charity.  It still kind of blows my mind when I get a sale from someone across the country! I'm going to keep a variety of prints and the watercolor print necklaces a constant in the store. But, I also love to make a wide variety of art, crafts, and sewing projects, so I've decided I'm going to do a … [Read more...]

The Influence Conference 2014!

Last summer I decided, kind of on a whim, to go to the Influence Conference. I went not personally knowing anyone and not really knowing what the weekend would hold. Little did I know that weekend would become a life changing catalyst. I know this sounds a little dramatic, but as I look back on this past year so much of my strength, determination, and confidence came from seeds that were planted back at the conference and then cultivated and encouraged by the Influence Network and the people I … [Read more...]

Why, Hello Again!

As you can tell, I've kind of taken an unofficial break from the blog since May. I didn't really mean to, at first, but after not posting for a few weeks I thought maybe it would be good for me to chill out for a bit this summer. It's been nice to take a step back and slow down a bit. I've also had time to think about what I really want my blog to be for me and for you my internet friends out there. I was trying to think about when others thought about my blog, what words would I want to come … [Read more...]
